The NOLITA Frog Skin Camo Overshirt is our Brooklyn take on a piece of military history. Frog skin — the iconic WWII-era camouflage pattern worn by the first Marine Raiders — gets reinterpreted here in a 10oz Japanese back satin: a tightly woven 100% cotton fabric with a smooth face, subtle sheen, and the kind of structured hand that softens beautifully with wear.

Designed to wear open as a light layer or buttoned as a standalone piece. Triple-stitched seams, hidden interior pockets, and outside hand-warming pockets built for real use. Every snap is pure brass, milled in Connecticut.

In 1942, a garden editor at Better Homes and Gardens designed the first camouflage pattern in American military history. Norvell Gillespie, a horticulturist by training, looked to nature — the mottled skin of a frog, the way light breaks through a forest canopy — and created a five-color disruptive pattern that would become known as frog skin.

The Marine Raiders wore it first, landing on Tulagi in the Solomon Islands in the dark early hours of August 6, 1942. It went on to see action at Guadalcanal and Bougainville, briefly appeared at Normandy before being pulled back — it looked too much like SS camouflage and was causing friendly fire — and eventually made its way into surplus stores, then hunting gear, then street culture. The CIA issued it to Cuban exiles for the Bay of Pigs. Special Forces gave it to the Montagnard in Vietnam. It's one of the most traveled patterns in the history of American cloth.

Shirts must be returned or exchanged within 15 days of date of receipt in new condition. Products that have been washed, altered or creased from wear are not eligible for return or exchange.
